Brighton Rock, 1947
“I’ve never changed. It’s like one of those sticks of rock. Bite one all the way down, you’ll still read Brighton. That’s human nature.” Brighton Rock, 1947.
Pinkie: You wanted a recording of my voice, well here it is. What you want me to say is, ‘I love you’. Well I don’t. I hate you, you little slut…
This scene is heartbreaking. Rose is so infatuated with him and this is what he’s really saying on a recording of his voice whilst she watches in awe of him.
Finally watched Brighton Rock today. We loved it. Cannot believe that Brighton was once ruled by such violent gangs, so different from the Gay Pride of Brighton of today. Richard Attenborough as Pinkie was so scary, he’s always been a favourite actor of ours and he’s also very handsome. William Hartnell was fantastic as always and gave a subtle performance and made his character both villainous and likable.
Also we need to stop pointing out other actors, like Lady Sybil from Sir Lancelot or Temmosus from ‘The Daleks’, not a film or TV programme goes by without us recognising half the cast.
Also why is this bloody spell check on American spelling, we spell favourite with a ‘u’ dammit.
Random the Great Escape caps.
Charles Bronson as the tunnel king, James Donald as Cpt. Ramsey, Gordon Jackson as Sandy Macdonald, Richard Attenborough as Roger Bartlett (Big X) and Steve McQueen as Hilts (the cooler king)
