K and C’s Top ten favourite the Adventures of Sir Lancelot episodes.
2. The Lesser Breed.
“You want to help me, why?” Lancelot.
“Because no one has the right to make free men into slaves” Sella.
A beautiful episode in stunning colour where Lancelot and Brian are sent to investigate a sea monster, only to be captured by the Vikings and sold into slavery. Whilst in slavery, Lancelot is helped by Princess Sella who does not want to be forced to marry a man she doesn’t love. Lancelot disguises himself as Prince Leif to pretend he’s marrying Sella instead.
The episode is a great one and Lancelot shows his anger when his captor grabs his face, “Take your hands off me!” He rages. It also shows Lancelot’s softer side as he starts to become fond of Sella. There is a great moment when he has this amazing sword fight sequence and then he sees Sella and tries to kiss her but she pulls away knowing they cannot be together. He seems rather disappointed.
This episode also treats us to a rather handsome beardy Lancelot as well as his fantastic headdress when he’s pretending to be the noble Prince Leif. The costumes are lovely in this one and it’s so great to look at.
Favourite scenes: Before they’re captured Brian and Lancelot are investigating and see something moving in the shadows, Brian recoils in horror straight into Lancelot’s arms and Lancelot laughs at his squire in amusement as we see that Brian was scared…of a cat!
Another great scene is the whole montage on the boat as Lancelot and Brian are forced to row in treacherous weather conditions. The way Lancelot protects Brian is so lovely and the scene looks great especially when Lancelot does a little look to the camera.
